We went to the zoo on Saturday. It was a lovely day. Sunny and warm. Not too crowded. Found good parking that was close. I haven’t been to the zoo in 2 years. I took the girls a couple of summers ago just me and them and then summarily ruined that summer by braking my ankle…when I went two summers ago the kids were young and we still had to rent a wagon. They got tired quickly and I was surprised I even ventured out with them by myself into the city being that young knowing they would get tired quickly and knowing I would have no help. What a difference this time!!! Both girls were running out ahead of us. Ava can read now. She would ask us about the animals and we would say let’s go look at the sign…after a couple times of that she would just go read it herself and when we finally caught up to her she would tell us all about what animal we were looking at. The were racing at full speed. We didn’t have to hold their hands or point things out to them…they were focused and found everything…and were constantly saying, “Mom, Dad look at this!” Corey and I were so excited about the fact that we didn’t have to do strollers or diaper bags or any of the other things we used to do. We could just go and do and be. And it was so very nice! We were able to get around the entire zoo and see just about everything…unlike when they were little and we got maybe around half way and then they were whining so badly we wondered why we were even doing this! What a difference a few years makes!
