Snakes On a Trail

I am by no means ophidiophobic, but being from Maine, I have no experience with larger snakes. So when I came around the corner on my bike and saw this in the trail, it definitely got my attention!

The pic doesn’t really do it justice, but it was about 5 feet long.

Pio, from the IRC channel #linuxn00b, helped identify it as a bull or gopher snake, so not venomous, but apparently they can be aggressive.

I gave this one a WIDE berth and went on my way. Hopefully it got where it was going …and stayed there!
