The Invisible Dog Leash

Most of my daily bike commute runs along a multi-use trail system, which means that, as a cyclist, I must yield to equestrians, dogs, pedestrians, prairie dogs and snakes.

To help mitigate my lowly trail-use status, the Town of Parker at least has a leash law in effect:

Of course there is 100% compliance with this ordinance, with about 30% of dog owners achieving compliance by means of the Invisible Dog Leash™.

The Invisible Dog Leash™ is an ingenious invention that allows the dog owner complete freedom to enjoy his or her walk without having to deal with a traditional tether. The dog also enjoys the benefit of being able to roam wherever it wants without getting tangled on sign posts and such.

There are also several benefits for cyclists:

  • When the dog and owner are on opposite sides of the trail, there is no thin, black retractable leash cord stretched across the trail between them.
  • There is no need to wonder how far the dog can proceed toward the cyclist, like with retractable leashes. With the Invisible Dog Leash™ the dog can, and will, proceed to a point directly in front of the bike’s front wheel.
  • The cyclist will have an easier time yielding, as point #2 will most likely require a full stop anyway.
  • The cyclist gets to meet new people, since contrary to a traditional leash where the dog is reeled in toward the owner’s location, with the Invisible Dog Leash™ the owner is brought to where the dog is. (Again, refer to point #2)

All in all, the Invisible Dog Leash™ is a fabulous invention, and I predict nearly 100% market penetration within a year or two.
