I worked on a layout for the bird feeder project photos I took the other day.  I was playing around with a template and thought it would just work for these photos.

    Here’s the layout…

    And here’s the template…

This template has a bit of grungy-ness to it…more than I’ve put into my templates before.  I love grunge.  I love the look and feel of it.  That’s what I’ve been playing around with in the last week or so with design work.  Thoughts?

You can download the template for free here.  If you use it I would LOVE to see what you do with it! ;D  Drop me a line!

You’ve often heard me write that Ali Edwards gives me inspiration.  I read her blog everyday.  Today’s post was another great one. I’m going to play along.  She has got a freebie over there on today’s post as well.  (I’ve used her freebie in the photo below.)  I love freebies…and I know you do too!!!! ;D

Here’s the start of my weekend.  The lilacs in my yard are starting to really open up.  I can smell them all the way in the house when I have the back door open.  And they are not right by the door either!  I’m so very thankful for loaded bushes this year.  Again it reminds me of my wedding, and Ava’s birth and spring and new life and my best friend in Maine. ;D  Ahh…I bet you can smell ‘em now too!  Ava loves them too and I think as a surprise for her I’m going to go cut some and put them in her room.  She will love, love, LOVE that!  So enjoy your weekend!  I’m going to!!!

I have a couple of freebies for ya.  Having some fun designing.  In addition to a paper pack I’ve got a group of brushes in both abr and png format.  I hope you like.  Was thinking of summer and vacation and the beach when I made the Sea paper pack.  Sometimes I really miss living near the ocean…especially when I watch the travel channel and they show Acadia NP…like this morning when I just happened to have turned it on. ;D

I decided to look over my Archives to write about my blogoversary.

    Some things to share…

When I write from the heart it is the most scary.  And it gets the most responses and most traffic to my blog.  Not that I do it for that reason.  I just find that interesting.

When I first started my blog I felt the need to write something everyday.  If  I didn’t I felt like I was worthless.  My husband told me a golden piece of advice.  If you don’t have anything to say, don’t.  Rather than write junk…don’t write anything.  Was one of the best pieces of advice anyone has given me about blogging.

Digital designing…when I put my first few pieces out there I was petrified.  But…I knew that if I didn’t put anything out there I would never strive to get better.  See…it doesn’t matter how much work I do on my computer.  If I don’t put it out there in front of an audience, for some reason that’s the thing that pushes me to become better.  So even tho it may be embarrassing to look at some of my first designs or my first layouts that I posted…I’m so glad that I did.  And a year from now I’m sure I’ll say the same thing about what I’m producing now.  At least I hope so…cause that means I’ll have improved from this point as well!

The easiest thing to write about…Laney.  The hardest thing…my childhood.

Something unexpected…I’ve met several really great people thru this blog.

My favorite post…the one I wrote the other day about Fear.

My favorite layout…This is actually my very first digital layout.  It also got me in the top ten of week 5 of the Ultimate Summer Challenge last summer over at Scrapbooketc.com.  That is not exactly why it is my favorite layout of last year.  I think it is because it was my first attempt at digital.  I didn’t really know what in the world I was doing but I still managed to do a pretty darn good job and I just love the simplicity of it! ;D

    vacation-photo-collage-week-5

My favorite photo…this one of Corey and the girls in Arches National Park.  I’ve commented before that it is one of my favorite photos.

    100_2964

Reflecting has been a bit difficult for me.  I’m not exactly sure why.  I wanted to be all sentimental and eloquent and tie everything all together in a neat little package but I’m just not able to do it.  So I’m just going to push forward and write about what I know.  The events of today…isn’t that one of the major reasons I started this blog anyway??? ;D

This morning we were getting ready for school and having several conversations.  One overlapping another.  Each of us interrupting another.  Laney kept getting interrupted the worst.  After she had been interrupted for like the millionth time and everyone was done talking she said, “As I was saying!!!!”

I busted a gut!  I said, “Where in the heck did she get THAT from?”

Corey, Ava and Laney all turned to me and said, “YOU!’

    “I do not say THAT!”

“Um, yeah ya do.”  was the response I got.

You never really realize what you say until you hear your kids repeating it back to ya. ;D  I am still convinced I don’t say it but that’s not what the rest of my clan say.

The only person, that I’m aware of, that participated in my bloggie-versary challenge was my dear friend Wendy.  She did several layouts with some of my designs.  She did a marvelous job!  Check out her blog here. Here are the layouts she did…

So congratulations Wendy!  You get the gift certificate to Designer Digitals!

And just cause I’m feeling so wonderful today…leave a comment on this post…to celebrate my blogoversary today and I’ll draw a winner (on Thursday) for another gift certificate to Designer Digitals.  Since I have a couple left over from the challenge…;D  Good luck!

I gained a little perspective today by reading two blog posts.  One was by someone you may not know…my friend Kendra.  The other was by someone very well known…Ali.  These posts really had nothing to do with each other.  But they had much meaning for me.

    1.  I’ve been struggling with creative fear.  Fear of putting myself out there and people won’t like my stuff and therefore not like me. I’m so closely related to my work.  It’s like an extension of me…heck it’s a part of me!  That said I do know from taking numerous art-type classes all growing up, through college and even now in my adult life (just getting done with Oh Shoot!) you have to learn how to separate yourself from your work to a certain degree to be able to accept “constructive criticism” in order to improve.  Oh so hard, so hard!  When you see it as a part of yourself it’s hard to not take the criticism as not toward your work but towards YOU! ;D

I heard it put recently that fear establishes the limits of our lives.  Oh how I know this to be so, so true.  How often have I let fear rule my life and have let it keep me from doing this or that.  How it keeps me from stepping out and putting myself out there for fear of rejection.  Of people rejecting not just my work…but ME!

That said I went to Ali’s blog this morning and read her post.  I love it when I ‘happen’ upon a blog post that is all about where I am right at that moment!!!  In her post right now I’m all those things but mostly #3 People not appreciating what we create.  So, so feeling that.  This was what she has to say about that…

    3. People not appreciating what we create. Here’s the plain truth: people will either love, hate, or be indifferent to what you create. You are the one who needs to love it, feel good about it, and not worry about what anyone else thinks. Most likely your family is going to either love or be indifferent towards your projects…and indifference doesn’t mean they don’t love you any less. Some of the things we create now may not be appreciated until later on – and that is ok too. This is why I encourage you to get to a place where you enjoy the process now – where you are filled up by what you are creating or by the friendships you are making through scrapbooking or by the stories you are telling and the memories you are recounting.

While this is so what I needed to hear…it is still not necessarily easy to DO!  But I’ll work at it!  ;D

    2.  The other thing that I really needed to hear today was perspective of someone else.  Someone at a different stage in their life.  While I feel like what I am struggling with is the be-all-and-end-all-of-life (and to me it IS pretty important) there are other people out there who have their own things that are just as important to them…just different.  When I read Kendra’s blog post today I remember all those feelings of being overwhelmed with cleaning the house and once one room gets cleaned its turning around to clean the one you just did.  I was thinking about when I had two young babies then toddlers and then two preschoolers and how I never had any time for anything I wanted to do.  I could just feel what she is feeling right now.  And I still do feel some of that.  I don’t have time to do it all.  ( BTW…I would love to have a personal trainer Kendra!!!  And to only have to loose 10lbs!  Wow!  I’d be styling!!!)

All this to say…now my girls are older.  Life is at a different stage now.  I’m able to do more of my hobby.  When I was back there in that other stage I NEVER thought I’d get out of it.  EVER.  It was a great reminder to read her blog post today and know that what I am struggling with now…one day will be a distant memory…just like this creative fear that I have right now.  I’ll look back and go…wow…I never thought I’d get out of THAT stage of my life.  And I will. ;D  And if YOU are struggling with anything today.  You will too!  You may not think so…I never do when I’m in the middle of it…but you will!

Here is a fantastic quote I found recently…

“Always do what you are afraid to do.”

    —Ralph Waldo Emerson

So with that thrown out there I’ll throw another one…here’s another paper pack that I’ve been working on.  I’m facing my fear of rejection…he he!

I so wanted to do a layout with the new paper pack and the photos I took that inspired it.  I also incorporated it into one of the challenges this week at Designer Digitals (Everyday Inspiration).  Three birds with one stone!  Woohoo!

I love Designer Digitals.  If you’ve been to this blog for any length of time you will have discovered that.  I love their products.  They have great challenges…that are accompanied by great freebies!  I encourage you to go check it out…if you aren’t already involved in an online digital community. ;D  I decided to become involved…a lurker no longer…over there.  This week’s Color Challenge is by one of my favorite, favorite designers…Anna Aspnes.  I think that’s what motivated me to take the plunge.  The Color Challenge looks like this…

We moved the trampoline into the corner of the yard where it belongs.  Off the grass.  The grass needs mowing already!  ;D  Corey put the net up.  Ava ended up helping him the most with that part.  They were so cute together!

While they were doing that…because I did all the hard work during the week of cutting back the trees and shrubs that needed trimming to fit the tramp in there…I took my camera and was just practicing with it.  The lilac bushes are loaded with blossoms this year!

I hope you enjoy them.   (You can use them for a layout in my blogoversary challenge.  There’s still time!)  I’m enjoying spring.  It’s starting to really green up as we have had some rain.  As I mentioned at the beginning of this post it is already time to mow the lawn!
