I just finished up my lo for week 7 of project 365.  I stuck with the same template as last week.  I liked it very much.  Went shopping at Designer Digitals the other day…got some new things and incorporated them into the lo.

How was your Valentine’s Day?  Ours was good.  It has never really been a huge holiday in our house but this year we all seemed to have gotten something for each other…and so it was fun. ;D

Friday I went in to take photos of Laney’s class party.  The kids were being particularly adorable this day.  All were talking to me…I was talking to them…getting down on their level…they are really used to me now.  They were posing very well and I got some great shots…especially of some kids I don’t normally get good shots of…those particular kids always seem to be moving and I get blurry shots of them.  Not so this time.  I had a good time. So did Laney. ;D

I will admit that a part of me was feeling a bit like I didn’t really deserve a new laptop.  It arrived on Saturday and Corey has spent the better part of the weekend setting it up and moving things over for me.  It is sooooooooooo beautiful!!!  So I was still feeling unworthy and he handed it over to me this afternoon for a test run and I opened up Photoshop, ACDSee, email and internet.  This think is SMOKIN FAST!!!  I opened up Photoshop and it does what I want it to do within a split second rather than having to go and do a load of laundry and come back and have it maybe done the thing I’ve asked it to do…So suddenly I’m not feeling so guilty anymore!!!  This thing ROCKS!  I should be a lot more productive…or at least my productivity cannot be blamed on my computer anymore! ;D

Here is my Project 365 layout finished for this week.  I was inspired by the quick collage that I posted about so I decided to create another template that was similar.  Here’s what the template looks like…

    365_templateno4_JenMaddocks

You can download the template for free here.

How are you all doing with Project 365?  I will say that again for photos this week was terrible.  My oldest daughter was sick all week and taking photos was last on my list.  But I did take a few and so I wasn’t going to let it get me down or let it stop me from doing it all-together.  I took a few at the beginning of the week and some this weekend when everyone was feeling better.  Again…real life.  And I put it in my journaling.  And it’s ok.  So again…if you fell behind don’t give up!!! ;D  Hopefully using templates helps some of you out there.  Let me know if you use this one or if you find anything out there that helps you out! ;D

I was putting together my photos from last week for my Project 365 and I wanted something simple, fast and easy.  I started to use my template but it just wasn’t coming together for me.  Then a light came on and I thought of these templates that I’ve used before over on scrapbooksetc.com.  They are called Quick Collages and there are lots of different styles and 3 series, card, rectangle and square.  Here’s what the one that I used looks like in its original form…

    sbequickcollage103

I have a bunch of them downloaded so I just pulled one up and plugged in the photos, did a little journaling, some embellishments and voila!!!!  Here’s what I came up with…

    week-5-jan25

    Scrapbooks Etc Quick Collage 103
Anna Aspnes Weathered Neutrals (Black paper)
Shabby Princess Seasonal Sampler Amore (Paper, Ribbon)
Michelle Coleman Vintage Dreams Retro Diva (Brads)
Studio Diane Scrapbookgraphics Made in the Shade mini kit (heart)
Shazbutt’s Digi-Scrapz Fall Splendor Collab (flower)
Jen Maddocks Designs 2009 brush, Valentine Pack tag brush
Ali Edwards Designs 31 Days Circle Accents, Title + Journal Photo Overlays No1
    Font KarabinE

I went looking for the links for the Quick Collages and found some people on there with questions on how to do certain things with these collages.  I was just going to post where to find them and what I did but was thinking if more than one person had a question I would post how I did things…cause I had some of the very same questions…and found answers…just by mucking around.  That’s usually how I discover things…I figure there’s always the delete key! ;D

If you watch the tutorial it will give you a basic idea of how to use the template.  I’m not going to reinvent the wheel so watch that first.  Then…one question I saw was how do you get a different color background around the photos other than white? What I did was duplicate the template layer so I had two layers of that then I stuck the layer of paper I wanted in between these two layers.  That was how I was able to move from a white background to a different colored background.

Step 1…(After opening the collage in Photoshop) is to duplicate the layer.  Oh and I also enlarged my collage to 12″x12″ because the original size was 8″x8″ and I wanted it to be a full 12″x12″.  You can do this by just going to Image>Image Size and then change it there.  You can see I have ‘duplicate layer’ circled in the photo below.  Right click on the layer you want duplicated and in the fly out menu there is a choice of duplicate layer.

    template_howto1

Step2…find the paper you want to have as the background and bring that in to your collage and put it in between the collage layers…As you can see in the photo below the borders around the blue photo squares is now black…the color of the paper I want to use.  And that layer is in between the collage layers as indicated by the arrow in the photo…

    template_howto2

Step 3…start pulling in the photos you want to use in your collage…To get this photo into position and underneath the (now) black frames but above the blue photo frame you must position the photo above the template copy and then use the clipping mask talked about in the tutorial…see I told you it was important to watch it ;D…what I did to get it in the right place was put the photo over the template layer and then mouse over the two layers holding down the ‘alt’ key and the left mouse button until you see two bubbles appear.  It will look something like this…

    template_howto3

When you do release the left mouse button (but still holding the ‘alt’ key) and then the photo will fall in behind the frames and in the layers palette you will then see it has an arrow pointing down to the collage layer as it does in the photo below in the section circled…

    template_howto4

Then position and size your photo to where you want it and then…as it showed in the tutorial…you are going to delete the areas of your photo that you don’t want…make sure you are on your photo layer or else you will delete things you don’t want…but remember there is always the undo button…I use that A LOT!!! ;D

    template_howto5

And then here’s my photo after I’ve ‘cleaned up’ the extra edges I didn’t want…

    template_howto6

Then just bring in your other photos and finish it up like the tutorial talked about.  Again here’s my finished product…

    week-5-jan25

The best advice I can give you is what I did.  And this was last summer when I was first getting into digital scrapbooking.  The more you do it the easier it gets…trust me! I watched the tutorial over and over till I got it.  I watched it and then stopped it…did what it said and then kept going.  I tried it and it didn’t work and I got frustrated and I walked away and then I went back to it.  I did online searches for Photoshop tutorials and found things that helped (and some that didn’t l0l).  Not trying to be a saleswoman…but I took Jessica Sprague’s class Now We’re Rockin With Photoshop last fall…when I’d gotten to a point where self teaching just wasn’t cutting it.  That class taught me so much!!!  So ask questions, do searches, keep trying, and don’t worry.  There is always a delete key and an undo key.  Believe me I still use both ALL THE TIME!!!

    Questions or Comments are welcome!!!

3.5.09  This particular post seems to be popular.  I just found another link on the scrapbooksetc.com website today with some answers to other questions.  I thought this might help some people too…specifically those who have other versions of Photoshop.

I’m still doing the Project 365.  How are you all doing with it?  I must admit…not this week but the week before I wasn’t so good about taking a photo everyday.  HOWEVER…I didn’t want that to get in my way of continuing on.  I didn’t want it to discourage me because, “oh no I’m doing it wrong I might as well give up!”  So one week was an “off week”…was that what real life was about…YES!  So onward and upward I go.  This week I took more photos and so we shall see what the next week will bring.

I decided to do these both digital.  It was the easiest for me at the moment…easy…get it done…I’ll be happy and I won’t fall behind! ;D  The first lo I used one of my Project 365 homemade templates.  You can download that template for free if you go to this post.

And then I just felt like doing something different for this week’s lo…

So if you happened to have gotten behind don’t give up.  It is still very early in the game.  Still January!!!!  If you haven’t started…again…it’s still January!  If you need some encouragement…here’s some…you rock!!! ;D  And if you have something to share…by all means do!!!

So I’ve been behind on reading some of the blogs I read regularly.  Funny how much time you don’t have to read them when you are working on your own stuff.  I’ve been working on some designs for Valentine’s Day.  I’m very excited about them.  Anyway…I headed over to Becky Higgins’ blog and low and behold I’m scrolling down and I find this post…Project 365 FREEBIES!!!  Below are a couple of them…as you can see I’ve already downloaded…so I could make this post!

Woohoo!  Thank you Becky and CK!!!

I got also some page protectors like Michelle suggested on this post.  Was going to try that approach to Project 365 as well.  I got Pebbles Share + Tell 4×6 Pocket Pages.

    pebbles-page-protectors

They were a little less expensive than the We R Memory Keepers ones (referring to Michelle’s post).  I got them at Hobby Lobby…with the weekly (or almost weekly) 40% off coupon!  Anything to save a buck or two…especially now-a-days!

Have an excellent…hopefully long (Monday off)…weekend!

I was struck by more inspiration and decided to use it towards the Project 365 again.  Just wanting to put some stuff out there for anyone who might be looking for inspiration or ideas.  I made a template in Photoshop for those of you wanting to do a little digi work.  Here it is…

And then here’s the layout that I did with it…

My friend Michelle honored me with a Kreativ Blogger award…

    kreativbloggeraward-150x150

I am very honored by this, thank you Michelle.  Michelle is one of those great unexpected gifts in life.  I met her this summer thru the Scrapbook Etc Ultimate Summer Challenge.  She is a gem!  She is so very talented and creative!  I have to turn around and nominate 7 blogs that I feel deserve this award…she is definitely one…and NOT just cause she nominated me…but I don’t expect her do do this again…cause around and around it would go.  Either way check out her blog…she’s extremely talented with scrapbooking, card making and her YouTube videos are great!  She also just got picked up by CropAddict.com Design Team.  Keep up the great work! ;D

Kendra…I haven’t known her that long but she is super nice.  She is a 100% digi scrapbooker.  She does great work.  I love reading her posts.

Jill…my bff here in Colorado. ;D  She doesn’t have a blog per se.  She has a Shutterfly site with her photos on it and she posts updates there.  She is a great photographer.  She scraps with me when we go to crops and boosts my ego by telling me how much inspiration I give her.  ;D  She just got into digi scrapping…yay I turned you to the dark side!  You are doing awesome btw!  She is a great person and friend!

Jen Wolff…her photography blows me away!  She is super super talented.  I know she is going to go far!  She is super nice too.  So down to earth and kind!

Pamela’s World of Scrap…She is a very talented scrapper.  She’s got a great blog.  Whenever I’m feeling a lack of inspiration I head over there and something I see always helps me out.

Well…that’s 5.  That’s gonna have to do.  The other blogs I frequent are more along the lines of  “celebrity” blogs and so I’m sure they don’t need this “award”!  LOL!

I have another idea to share about Project 365.  Again since the kits are sold out…we have to become creative ourselves.  This is ok…I like creative! ;D

I have these pages by Crop In Style.

    crop_in_style

They are meant for storage but I got them to do some pages in my scrapbooks…just for something different.  I originally got the idea from Ali Edwards.  You can see what she did here.  I was thinking about them the other day in relation to Project 365 and I thought it would be another perfect substitute for those of us looking for alternatives who did not get a kit! ;D  You can find the PSB Crop In Style refill pages here.  I bought mine at Archiver’s.  I was able to buy them there individually rather than a pack.

Here’s what mine look like for this week…

    img_7272

    Supplies Used:
    Crop In Style Refill Page
    American Crafts Cardstock
My Mind’s Eye Out and About paper
    Kaiser Scrapbook flower
    Cloud Nine Word Phrase sticker
    Martha Stewart Embellishment bead
    Heidi Swapp date stamp
    Cricut Design Studio Software
    Cricut Expressions
    Cricut Cartridge Base Camp

What I did was measured the pockets and then I designed the shapes on my Cricut Design Studio Software.  I then cut the pieces out on my Cricut Expressions in different paper colors and styles.  Then I went to work.  The picture below shows the piles of cut out paper I have left over for future pages…

    img_7265

Again…I did this pretty simply.  And I like that.  Mostly just photos and words.  I’m liking the power of photos and words lately.  Obviously you can do as little or as much embellishment as you want.  I like that if I have a week when I don’t have a lot of photos I can put interesting looking paper or what-not in the pockets.  And then weeks when I have a lot of photos I can do just the reverse.

I think that with Project 365 I’m going to do a combination of this page above AND the hand made ones from yesterday’s post.  Mostly because I like variety.  Also because I’m not always going to want to have my photos cut up so small as the page above has such small pockets where the sewn one has larger ones.

I’m hoping these ideas help you out and get the creative juices flowing.  If you are doing these ideas or anything of your own please share…I’d love to see! ;D  Have a fabulous weekend!

Don’t forget to live intentionally! ;D
